Sad as it to report, the core values of our American society are slowly being chipped away, one freedom or right at a time, by the minority. As reported on the web and air waves for the last several day, we Americans have lost another right. A right that comes at a very sad and emotional time in the cycle of life… death.
Because of the objection of ONE person, The Department of Veterans Affairs has told administrators of its 125 veterans cemeteries not to participate in a religion-laced recitation that sometimes accompanies the folding of the American flag at funerals.
“Phil Budahn, a spokesman for the VA in Washington, said the agency received an objection to the script’s religious references after it was used during a funeral at Riverside National Cemetery in California.”
Now I am not a religious person. I consider myself to be a spiritual person. But I do respect the religious beliefs of others. And as far as ONE person voicing an objection to the closing of a military funeral, one voice of dissent should not be the voice that changes traditions, honors and beliefs of the many.
Our country is based on majority rule, not on the objecting voice of one person. Slowly we Americans are having our core values erroded, one chip at a time. If the demgods in small towns, cities, states and Washington keep chipping away at our inherated values and rights, we shall become a nation of quivering sheep.
Who gave the power to change long standing traditions to the “one” crackpot? This great country of ours was based on religious principles, like it or not. whether you agree with religion beliefs or not, that is our HISTORY and founding principles.
If the governments in this country are so concerned about what is right with respect to religion, then I say we, the people should demand that you put into practices into place. Remove ALL religious writing, images and principles from EVER government book, building and speech and even our money. They have taken steps with the money to make “In Go We Trust” as obscure as possible by having the inscription on the edge of the coin.
The Military should be forced to retire all Chaplains. There should be no last rites on the battlefield because the person in the next foxhole may not be a believer. Of course the government may not have a problm with any of these ideas. Why not you ask? Money! Church’s, Temples, and Mosque could all be closed saving money. They wouldn’t need the Chaplain’s Department, saving more money.
This latest outrage is just another chip that has been removed from our principals and beliefs. All brought by the power of ONE. Perhaps I should wonder around downtown and start make a list of all the religious images I find. Then I can go before the city, town and state government and demand that these articles be removed because I and I alone find them objectionable.
And then there is the other problem…. what I call the “sissifaction”(my word) of America.
May your God help us!
